The Minnesota Twins are the among the worst teams in baseball. The Twins are the worst team in the American League. The Twins have just tied the team record for losses in April and there is a good chance the record could be set with a loss at Kansas City tonight. It is time to fire the coach. This is standard operating procedure in situations like this. Ron Gardenhire inherited a perennial contender when he took over the Twins back in 2002 and has not been able to get the job done. The fact is he has never managed to manage his way past the Yankees and there is absolutely no reason to believe he ever will. Gardy is tired, maybe even burnt out. Gardy doesn’t even have the energy to get tossed like he used to; just last night lamely arguing a Drew Butera out before retreating back to the dugout to daydream about being out on the lake in the boat. Gardy backers may argue he has made the playoffs much more often than his predecessor Tom Kelly, but Kelly’s 2 World Series trophies trump that easily. Ron has had a nice run, and will be remembered as a players manager.
While we’re handing out pink slips Rick Anderson’s name should be on one as well. The pitching staff is not performing anywhere near expectation and once again in situations like this heads need to roll. Anderson has done a decent job as evident by the amount of former Twins relievers being featured on teams throughout the league. But decent does not win World Series. We are lucky Brian Duensing is even available to pitch tonight the way Gardenhire and Anderson went through pitchers a couple nights ago. These two guys have had a nice time running an elite Major League Baseball team, unfortunately they must have run out of quarters cause it ain’t playing right anymore. Send Gardenhire and Anderson packing Twins, send them off nice, but get em outta here before its too late.
